Last evening (Monday, October 21) the abandoned home just south of the Mission House was gutted by fire. A group was meeting in the Mission House and when they saw the flames around 10:00 pm they called 911. The Fire Department was here within minutes to contain the fire, and it was totally out by midnight. There was no damage to the Mission House.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, although arson is a possibility. The State Fire Marshal’s office will be investigating. The future of the building is also undetermined. After the investigation is complete the City Building Department will look at whether it can be salvaged for rehab, or whether it has to be demolished. There were news stories on FCN News and Fox News, and you should be able to get some photos and videos at their web sites. The concert will be held on the Commons, weather permitting, so bring a lawn chair if you have one, a beverage of choice, and an appetizer to share. Join the crowd, whether on the Commons or in the church Sanctuary, and hear the award-winning sounds of this beautiful sister of soul.
We will celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi with a Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, October 6 at 10:00 am. Bring your pets to church with you and, following the shortened service of Holy Eucharist, we’ll move to the Commons for the individual blessing of each of our furry, feathered, and scaly friends. If you can’t bring your pet, then bring a picture and the Vicar will bless them vicariously.
Celebrating International Day of Peace Bring a lawn chair if you have one, a beverage of your choosing, and an appetizer to share for a great evening of “Peace-Full” music. This is the year that Pete Seeger would have been 100! So expect some good ol’ hippie music remembering Pete.
